Top 3, ratio, trio… AS Monaco’s crazy numbers on the road

Most recently winners in Ajaccio (0-2), the Rouge et Blanc have continued their exceptional form on the road this season, which places them among the best in the league after 14 matches away from home.

They are unstoppable! By defeating AC Ajaccio this weekend in Corsica (0-2), just before the international break, the AS Monaco players confirmed their exceptional form away from home this season. They’ll hope to do the same at the Stade Louis-II as soon as the season resumes against Strasbourg (Sunday April 2, 5:05 p.m.), but in the meantime here’s all you need to know about their record to date.

The second-best record in the top flight

First of all, Philippe Clement’s players recorded their ninth away win in Ligue 1 this season in Corsica. After 14 games played by most top flight clubs away from home, the Rouge et Blanc have 31 points (9 wins, 4 draws), the second-highest total in the league, level with PSG. Only Olympique de Marseille have a better record on the road (34 points, 11 wins, 2 draws).

Unbeaten since October 23

The teammates of  Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored his 17th goal – his 80th in Ligue 1 withAS Monaco as he was voted MVP of the match, had previously brought down Strasbourg, Nice, Reims, Montpellier, Toulouse, Auxerre, Clermont and Brest at home. It’s very simple, the last defeat suffered by the Monegasques away in the league dates to October 23 in Lille (4-3).

A record in Europe!

This unbeaten run away from the Principality therefore extends to eight games (5 wins, 3 draws), while the team have scored in each of their last 19 away matches in Ligue 1 (41 goals). It is simply the best current run in the European Big 5 according to Opta! AS Monaco is thus the only team to have scored during each of its trips this season in the five major European leagues.

Decisive in the first half

And the teammates of Krépin Diatta, who also scored in Ajaccio, have been scoring a lot. With 28 goals, they have the best attack in the top flight just behind Paris Saint-Germain (34), level with OM, an average of two goals/match. And given that they often strike first, the Rouge et Blanc have a record of eight wins and three draws after opening the scoring this season away from home.

The Wissambolovin trio takes the lead

These statistics are owed in part to a magic trio: Ben Yedder – Embolo – Golovin. The friends that make up the attack have been involved 22 times among these 28 goals. The number 10 and Monaco captain has been the most decisive player with seven goals scored and three assists, ahead of the Swiss international (5 goals, 1 assist) and the Tsar (3 goals, 3 assists).

Six clean sheets already!

With the third best goal difference (+14), the Monegasques have also shown impressive solidity. By keeping Alexander Nübel’s goals (100 saves already this season in the top flight) untouched in Corsica, they indeed made it a sixth clean sheet on the road in to Ligue 1, i.e. almost one every two games (43%).

Urged on every time by many supporters present in the away end, as in Troyes recently, they continue to excel. Long may it last, everywhere and always!
