Céline Gabbiani is 2017 Weightlifting Champion of France

Céline Gabbiani, accompanied by her coach Jean Canestrier, travelled to Mont-de-Marsan in Landes to participate in the elite French Weightlifting Championships in the under 58 kg category.

Thanks to an excellent mastery of her first move (the Snatch), Célia took the lead with a 73 kg load, after barely failing her last attempt at 76 kg.

On the second move, (the Clean & Jerk), the game took an unusual turn. Even though she is very comfortable with this move, an unexpected drop in form frightened Célia, causing her to miss her first attempt at 85 kg and the loss of her provisional lead.

A quick exchange of words with her coach allowed the young Monegasque athlete to re-motivate and above all to refocus on her goal. Her experience and her‘mind of steel’ allowed her to succeed at two bars at 85 and 88 kg, blow by blow and thus knocked out her opponents for the day.

At the end of the day of competition, the weightlifter took home the title of 2017 French Champion!

Her coach, Jean Canestrier, is more than satisfied. He describes Célia as “consistent and motivated. It is thanks to her seriousness in training that her work has paid off! ”
