World’s Best Athletes at Herculis Diamond League Monaco

The new Herculis EBS Monaco event will be offering Olympic calibre competitions on Friday 20 July. Along with some special surprises

Usain Bolt has set five world records, three competition records and a Diamond League record in 2017, so Monaco’s event should see the athlete continue his stellar performances in 2018.

Participation from the latest athletes has been recently confirmed and spectators will be sure to witness the very essence of the discipline, with big rivalries between competitors.

In the men’s competition, the sensation from the beginning of the season, young American Noah Lyles, recent winner of the 100 m American championships, will have to withstand the 200 m against Turkish Ramil Guliyev, reigning world champion, France’s Christophe Lemaitre, as well Italy’s Filippo Tortu.

In the women’s 100 m, Ivorian Marie-Jose Ta Lou, second-place champion in the 100 and 200 m, worthy of qualifying for the world finals, will be opposed by Dafné Schippers, two-time world champion, Muriel Ahouré and Aleia Hobbs, recently crowned US champion of the 100 m.

Hurdles

The 110 m hurdles will be almost as high-speed as the sprints. Russian Sergey Shubenkov will be particularly opposed by Jamaican Omar McLeod, world and Olympic champion, Aries Merritt, holder of the world record and Devon Allen, recent champion of the United States.

The women’s 3,000 m steeplechase will come down to talent and passion: Kenyans Hyvin Kiyeng, silver Olympic medalist, and Beatrice Chepkoech, bronze medalist at the London Worlds last year, will want to prove to American Emma Coburn, world champion 2017 to everyone’s surprise, that the steeple remains their speciality.

In the men’s triple jump, Christian Taylor, reigning Olympic champion and current World Champion, should fair well and become the world’s best of the season. However, he will have to face worthy competitors like Nelson Evora or Alexis Copello, who had an incredible jump at 17m24 this season.

Entry will be free and open to all. It will be an opportunity for spectators to see Kevin Mayer, the French world champion of the decathlon, alongside the best of the best in the world. Including American Ryan Crouser, Olympic champion, and current French champion, Frédéric Dagé.

For the women’s, the competition will look like a festival of skill. With World Champion Lijiao Gong from China, Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd (silver in the World Championships this winter), defending champion Michelle Carter from the United States, and two-time champion Valerie Adams from New Zealand.

Kevin Mayer

Kevin Mayer is a talented competitor and star of French and international athletics since his silver medal in 2016 and his world title in 2017.
