Cupid has fired his arrows and The Last Dinner Party has emerged as one of the revelations of the London scene. The first time these musicians performed live was at the George Tavern in 2021. With their début album Prelude to Ecstasy, the indie rock quintet has enjoyed a meteoric rise and things have gathered momentum ever since. The band’s image is circulating, their songs are played in public spaces, and this media exposure has become the raw material for this second album, released before their fans’ eyes. The tracks Inferno, Agnus Dei and This is the Killer Speaking evoke this metamorphosis, this transition from anonymity to fame. Following the opulence of the first opus, attention now turns to a sublime, more raw, earthy landscape. The lives of ordinary characters unfold to the limit, in a theatrical setting of sound and costume. ”The lyrics evoke guns, scythes, sailors, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc and devastating fires. This imagery, both evocative and radical, seemed to us to be the most accurate way to convey the intensity of our experiences ”, say the performers. A space of violence and destruction, The Pyre is also a haven of regeneration and beneficial light.
