Monaco to Host the European Women's Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship

To begin with, this weekend the brightest minds will compete in the Women’s European Championship of Rapid & Blitz games on January 12, 13 and 14, 2024.

Under the High Patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, the Monegasque Chess Federation, under the auspices of the European Chess Union, is organizing the European Women’s Rapid and Blitz Games Championship at the Novotel Hotel from January 12 to 14, 2024. 100 to 120 players are expected, including all the women from the Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo.

The games of the first 17 boards will be broadcast on the internet and commented by the International Master Almira SKRIPCHENKO (eight-time French Champion) and the International Grand Master Amir BAGHERI.

Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates 70th Anniversary

A very different kind of competition will unfold in the port of Monaco: Monaco Optimist Team Race is organized by the Yacht Club of Monaco on 10- 14 January 2024.

For the last ten years, 64 sailors 14 years old and under, divided into 16 teams from 16 nations, have been competing in the Monaco Optimist Team Race. Organised with the support of FxPro, clothing supplier SLAM, this original match race format in teams of four Optimists relies on technique, tactics and above all team-work. As well as the sporting aspect, with an average 120 races over four days, youngsters from our twin and reciprocal clubs all over the world come to meet others passionate about sailing and have fun.

Open Air Circus Show

On Saturday don’t miss the Open Air Circus Show, a Great Circus Parade in town is organized on Saturday January 13, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Place du Palais. Come and celebrate the centenary of Prince Rainier III and the 50th anniversary of the Festival!

Music lovers will enjoy a concert of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, “Orthodox New Year – Makedonissimo”,  transcriptions and arrangements of traditional Macedonian music by Pande Shahov, based on an idea by Simon Trpceski is held on Saturday 13 January 2024, at 8 pm, in Auditorium Rainier III.

With Simon Trpceski, piano, Aleksandar Krapovski, violin, Alexander Somov cello, Hidan Mamudov, clarinet, and Vlatko Nushev, percussion.

And another concert is on Sunday: Symphonic Concert of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Bertrand de Billy, with Louis Lortie, piano held on January 14, 2024, at 6 p.m., in Auditorium Rainier III. On the program there is music by BEETHOVEN and KORNGOLD.

Exhibition: "Vanitas Xmas"

Among many interesting exhibitions that are held in Monaco these days you can take a look at “Vanitas Xmas” by Frederique de Mortain, held at Espace 22 from Thursday 21 December 2023 to Saturday 13 January 2024, from 11 am to 8 pm.

Hauser & Wirth Monaco presents Mark Bradford’s ‘Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen’, From September 29 to February 10 a major new solo exhibition centered around a selection of paintings based on the historical tapestries known as ‘The Hunt of the Unicorn,’ first exhibited at the Fundação de Serralves in 2021. A site-specific wall painting that will wrap the entire gallery space and an adaptation of ‘He would see this country burn if he could be king of the ashes’ (2019) will complete an immersive experience that draws the viewer into Bradford’s ongoing engagement with the themes of predation, destruction and the hope of rejuvenation for those in crisis.
