Weekend in Monaco with #hello_monaco

After a glorious week for the Monaco football team it’s time for everyone to relax and enjoy the weekend. And we’ll give you some ideas about what to do during these two days.

The 70th annual Cannes Film Festival

This week near Monaco started one of major events of the cultural life of the region: the Cannes Film Festival, all eyes are turned to the red carpet and the screen of the Palais des Festivals. Spanish film director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar is the President of the Jury for this 70th festival with Italian actress Monica Bellucci hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. On the program this weekend are Come Swim by Kristen Stewart and An Inconvenient Sequel by Claude Lanzmann.

DIRECTOR KRISTEN (20th of May)

The Festival’s new favorite, Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper, On the Road, Café Society, Sils Maria…) will present her first short film Come Swim, “A Day in the Life of a Man, told impressionistically and realistically.” It will even be included as one of the 70th Anniversary Events!

DOCS IN STOCK (21st of May)

Since Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 (Palme d’or 2004), no documentary has had the honor of winning a prize. The genre is still well represented at Cannes. We will see several docs again this year, in special sessions. The most anticipated are those by Claude Lanzmann about North Korea (Napalm) and An Inconvenient Sequel, which former US Vice-President Al Gore, a tireless fighter of climate change, will present at Cannes.

"Goodbye Mr. Haffmann"

Theater is inviting you to go back in time and think about some serious matters with “Goodbye Mr. Haffmann” (“Adieu Monsieur Haffmann”) by Jean-Philippe Daguerre with Grégori Baquet, Julie Cavanna, Alexandre Bonstein, Franck Desmedt and Charlotte Matzneff on Friday 19 May, at 8.30 pm, Saturday 20 May, at 6 pm and 9 pm and Sunday 21 May, at 4.30 pm in Théâtre des Muses.

Paris, 1942. Wearing of the yellow star for the Jews is a decreed. Joseph Haffmann proposes to his employee Pierre Vigneau to entrust his jewelry to him until the situation improves. Knowing that Pierre must also take the risk of clandestinely sheltering his “old” boss within the shop’s walls, he finally accepted the Joseph’s deal, on condition that he accepted his own: to offer his wife what “He fails to offer her… a child”. Tickets are available at €18-€29.

Eglise Saint-Charles

A chance to help those in need is on Friday May 19, 10 am to 6 pm; and Saturday May 20, 10 am to 1.30 pm, in Saint-Charles Church: Fete organised by the Saint-Vincent de Paul Society in aid of the disadvantaged and needy. Information: +33 6 40 62 86 16

And the final match of this season deserves attention: AS MONACO vs. STADE RENNAIS FC are playing in French League 1, Day 38 on Saturday 20 May at 9.00 pm.
