The numbers are in: Monaco’s tourism industry had a very profitable 2025. The Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) reported that revenue in the accommodation and food services reached €1.1 billion last year. This number is up 6.3% compared to 2024, in a context where the Principality’s total declined by 7.6%.
The IMSEE also collected over 6,878 questionnaires in Monaco’s main tourist sites over one year. The results were recently published, in mid-July.
Almost 7 million visitors
In 2025, the Principality recorded 6.7 million visits. The average length of stay stood at 1.2 days for excursionists and 3.8 days for tourists, bringing the total number of visitor days to almost 9.3 million over the year and the total number of overnight stays to 1.4 million.
Hotels were the preferred accommodation choice for tourists, accounting for 71.1% of stays throughout the year. Visitor flows were largely dominated by residents of France, particularly excursionists, who accounted for almost 48% of all visits. However, visitors from outside the European Union represented around 42% of overnight stays.
Monaco is most popular among couples…
Couples constituted the most common visitor groups, regardless of the type of stay (37.0% of all visiting groups), followed by family visits (32.7%). Leisure and holidays remained the main reason for visiting (94.8% of all visits), although the proportion of work-related stays reached almost 25% among tourists.
Private or rental motor vehicles and rail transport were the two most common means of travelling to the Principality (42.6% and 33.3% of all visits respectively), while taxis were the predominant choice among tourists at 34.8%.
On average, an excursionist spent €76 per day of visit, compared with €348 for a tourist. Over the full average duration of a visit, these amounts rose to €85 and €1,670 respectively.
Biggest Spenders are from the Middle East
Visitors residing in the Near and Middle East were the highest spenders, with average expenditure exceeding €1,000 per day and per person for those staying in Monaco.
Overall, total direct visitor expenditure is estimated at nearly €1.4 billion, representing 6.8% of the Principality’s total revenue excluding Financial and Insurance Activities in 2025. Although tourists accounted for only 7.5% of visits, they generated 61.4% of this financial volume.
