A 42-year-old man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to assist a person in danger as Monaco’s authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding Antoine de Massy’s fall.

In a statement issued on 28 October, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that a judicial inquiry had been opened that morning following investigations by the judicial police. An investigating judge will now continue the work to establish the precise sequence of events.

The accused, a Ukrainian national who has lived in Monaco for thirty years, denied the allegations during police custody, according to the prosecutor’s statement.

Following his appearance before the investigating judge, he was formally charged with both offences and placed in pre-trial detention. The statement said that he had not, at that stage, wished to answer the judge’s questions.

Prosecutors specified that the acts underlying the two charges may have occurred at different times. The statement did not provide further details about the conduct alleged or the circumstances preceding the fall.

Establishing that chronology will be a central task of the judicial investigation. Alongside questioning the accused, investigators will undertake analyses and technical examinations to help reconstruct what happened.

The charges mark a further stage in the proceedings; they do not establish guilt. The Public Prosecutor’s Office stressed that the accused remains presumed innocent.

The statement was issued in Monaco at 1.30 p.m. on 28 October 2026.
