Exceptional performance by pupils from the Principality in 2018 Baccalaureate and Diplôme National du Brevet examinations

The final Baccalaureate results recently confirmed the excellent performance achieved by the Principality’s secondary school students during the main examination round.

State schools:

  • Lycée Albert I achieved fantastic results with a 100% pass rate in the general baccalaureates (economic and social studies (ES), literature (L) and science (S)). Out of 210 candidates, 180 were awarded honours. Equally, all candidates for the technology baccalaureates achieved a pass.
  • Students at Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School recorded a 100% pass rate for the technology baccalaureate (hotel and catering sciences and technologies (STHR)), and in six out of the seven vocational options.

In private schools under contract, Lycée François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré secured a 97.18% pass rate for the general baccalaureates, including 100% success in the literature option.

A total of 450 pupils were enrolled for the examination and 369 achieved honours.

With regard to the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB), 421 out of the 428 pupils enrolled for the examination achieved a pass, giving a remarkable pass rate of 98.36%, and 323 were awarded honours.

  • In the state sector, the 296 pupils entered for the examination at Collège Charles III achieved a 99% pass rate and 215 honours.
  • In the private sector, Collège François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré recorded a pass rate of 96.90%, with 108 out of 125 pupils receiving honours.

It should also be recalled that Lycée Albert I students achieved a faultless performance in the 2018 Brevet de Technicien Superieur (BTS) examinations: 100% of the students passed their ‘Assistant Manager’ and ‘Accounting’ courses. Two students from Lycée Albert I scored the best marks under the Nice Education Authority.

The story was the same at Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School, where all students taking the culinary and table arts option passed their exams. Excellent results were also recorded in the BTS Marketing and Management Option, with 12 out of 14 students achieving a pass. The second top marks for the BTS Hotel and Catering course in the Nice Education Authority were achieved by a student from the school.

The impressive success of the Principality’s pupils and students in the end-of-year examinations for 2017–2018 once again illustrates the very high quality support that they receive throughout their education.

It is also a reflection of the commitment of the management teams and staff at the country’s schools.

The Prince’s Government would like to thank all those who have steered the pupils to success. The Government is extremely grateful to the Department of Education, Youth and Sport under the leadership of Ms Isabelle Bonal for its decisive role in implementing the Government’s policy for young people in the Principality.

Finally, the Government would like to reiterate its warmest congratulations to all of the successful pupils and students, who can now look forward to some well-earned holiday time!
