AS Monaco is on top of the League 1 after their biggest ever victory over OM 4-0.
AS Monaco claimed their biggest ever win over OM thanks to goals from Boschilia, Germain (X2) and Carrillo! !
Up against a well organized Marseille outfit, the Red & Whites took a few minutes to get into their stride, with Boschilia and Raggi looking to link up down the left, and Silva unleashing the first shot in anger with a low effort that shaved Pelé left-hand post in the 4th minute; Gomis replied in the 7th minute with a half-volley from range that Subasic held easily. Silva was causing all sorts of problems down the right and beat Rekik several times, but without finding a teammate in the middle. After a corner won by Sidibé on the right, Boschillia earned a free-kick in a good position in the 21st minute. With a magical swing of his left peg, he found the top corner of Pelé’s net!
BOSCHILIA AND GERMAIN IMPRESS
The young Brazilian’s third goal from a direct free-kick set AS Monaco on their way. On the half hour, Silva overcame Rekik yet again on the right and crossed to the near post where Germain made it two with an unsavable header (30 mins). The Marseillais suffered another blow in the 39th minute, as Silva sent Sidibé into space down the right and he found Falcao in the area, but the Columbian left the ball to Germain who came in at the far post with a curling strike that nestled in the left corner of Pelé’s net to put AS Monaco even further in front and send the home fans into seventh heaven! Leading 3-0 at the break, the Red & Whites were maintaining their blistering attacking form!
AS MONACO CONTROL PROCEEDINGS
In the second half, it looked like the visitors were resigned to their fate. Falcao missed with a header from a good position in front of Pelé in t he 47th minute. The Marseille ‘keeper then had to be alert to keep out Germain’s follow-up effort from an initial shot by Falcao. Pelé blocked the ball easily (52 mins). He was back at it again before the hour mark, from efforts by Boschilia and Silva (55 and 57 mins). For the visitors, Gomis had a go in the 60th minute, but saw his volley dealt with comfortably by Subasic. AS Monaco were calmly managing their lead, while going on a few incursions into Marseille territory, before both coaches opted to ring the changes. The substitutions failed to change the pattern of the game, however, with Leonardo Jardim’s men continuing to dominate.
CARRILLO ADDS THE COUP DE GRACE
Sidibé chanced his arm in the 64th minute but sent his shot well over, befor Falcao was blocked in extremis by Pelé (68 mins) Subasic was also called into action in the 75th minute, pulling off a superb save to keep out Cabella’s point blank effort from Njie’s cross! Moments later, Bakayoko spurned a fine chance after linking up well with Germain (78 mins). Carrillo then did the same, seeing his late lob cleared off the line. But the Argentine did find a way through straight after that, heading in after Pelé had failed to clear Germain’s shot. The 4-0 win is AS Monaco’s biggest ever margin of victory over OM in Ligue 1, and puts the Red & Whites back at the top of the table ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Dijon.
