Challenge yourself with WorldClass Athletics Games
The first WorldClass Athletics Games took place in Cap d’Ail on 7 October and “Sports without limits!” was the main credo of the organisers. Sports competitions attracted people from throughout French Riviera, because in these games 60 people took part! The idea of combining sports, athletics and fun was absolutely harmonious, and it was gladly supported by the residents of Monaco and its neighbours. In fact, the Athletics Games course consisted of a number of diverse sports disciplines, such as power games, running, kayak, balancing and many more. Each team included 2 participants who were competing in different categories: “woman-woman”, “man-man”, and “man-woman”.
Winners in one of the categories, Lucas and Julien shared with HelloMonaco their secret for success and their motivation for participating in Athletics Games:
“We found out about the games through online advertising and decided to join, despite the fact that we live in Cannes. We are incredibly glad that we took part in the contest, and, moreover, took the winning place! For us, running for 1.8 km turned out to be the most difficult stage. We do crossfit regularly, so perhaps this helped us to win.”
Francesco Castellacci, a professional racing driver and his wife Sandra, also took part in the race and took the well-deserved first place in the category “man and woman”. The couple told us which obstacles were the most difficult in the competition:
“We always take part in every sport event organised by WorldClass, as we are members of the club. We had a lot of fun during the race, but I should note that the competition was not easy. For my wife, for example, squats with a heavy ball proved to be the most difficult exercise. What is interesting in these ‘challenges’ is the team work. If someone from the ‘duo’ cannot manage to do one of the exercises, the other gets the opportunity to compensate for his partner! This was an excellent experience for us!”
In addition, HelloMonaco managed to talk to one of the organisers of the “races” Laurent, who shared some interesting facts about the preparation of the event:
“This is the first Athletics Games, but we are sure they will not be the last ones! Now we will do our best to start the same project next year. We are glad that this time we and WorldClass got support from such brands as Adidas, Decathlon Monaco, WeJogg, Eric Favre Nutrition and the Cap D’Ail town council. Our main goal was to gather the maximum number of people and give them the opportunity to challenge themselves. My team planned a sports track and, together with WorldClass, created questions for the quiz that took place during the race. With a wrong answer to a question, the team received a penalty in the form of push-ups or other exercises.”
In the final part of the contest we talked to Dmitry Grishin, the manager of the WorldClass club in Monaco, who spoke about the main principle of the WorldClass clubs and about the Athletics Games in Cap d’Ail:
“One of the important principles of the club’s work is the organisation of a large number of events, that, as we saw, our customers actively support! For instance, in Moscow we organised WorldClass Games. These games represent several weeks of competitions in different disciplines, which is very popular in Moscow. For us, the atmosphere in the club plays an extremely important role, and in Monaco we also strive to form a kind of‘club of friends’ that are united by sport. This idea also stood behind the creation of the Athletic Games. In addition, we celebrated the 2-year anniversary of its existence in the Principality. If last year we celebrated our ‘first year’ as a more formal event, now we decided to create something more ‘active’, The Athletics Games. I am very glad that the event was held in such a pleasant ambiance. In the evening we planned something very special: a mini-party in the sports club for the contestants of the games, everything was planned to the smallest detail; the club will have a DJ as an inseparable part of the fitness disco and, of course, champagne for all guests of the evening!”
Well, let’s hope that next year we will see the second Athletics Games, which will be even bigger and more impressive! We will be looking forward to it! The WorldClass Athletics Games have a bright future here.
