Prince Albert attends Human Rights Photography Exhibition

Prince Albert II visited the ‘Declarations’ photography exhibition by renowned Franco-Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado on 21 February, in the presence of the artist and his wife Lélia Wanick Salgado, who curated the exhibition. Thirty images were on display at the Musée de l’Homme Trocadero in Paris to uniquely commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (signed on 10 December 1948 at the Palais de Chaillot, next door to the Musée de l’Homme). These black and white photographs, in large and medium format, were taken all over the planet over the last 40 years of Sebastiao Salgado’s career and feature the daily life of women and men at work. The strong images perfectly illustrate certain articles of the Declaration, including the right to asylum, freedom of conscience, freedom of religion and the right to work.

The Prince Albert II Foundation supports the reforestation and preservation of water resources with Instituto Terra in Brazil, founded by Lélia and Sebastiao Salgado.  The ‘Declarations’ exhibition is open to the public until June 2019.
