Every year, Monaco’s late summer season kicks off with an event that goes beyond the realm of opulence and extravagance. It’s the Ladies Vintage Rally for Charity, organized by Child CARE Monaco, and it’s more than just a social gathering; it’s a celebration of style, history, and philanthropy.
In the year 2023, in the 10th edition attended by HelloMonaco, this event paid a graceful homage to the Roaring Twenties, the era that marked the birth of Prince Rainier III. What set this year apart was the inclusion of gentlemen participants, infusing a new layer of sophistication into the rally.
The rally itself was a visual spectacle. Over ninety participants, each in their vintage cars, embarked on a journey that was part adventure, part elegance. Some of these vehicles even came from the prestigious collection of HSH Prince Albert.
The synergy between these timeless automobiles and the participants’ attire was nothing short of remarkable.
Behind this glamorous façade lies the heart of Martine Ackermann, the founder and president of Child CARE Monaco and her daughter Carla who helped her a lot to organize this Rally. Her vision was inspired by a passion and a deep commitment to supporting humanitarian missions.
One of the rally’s distinctive features is the shroud of secrecy that envelops the event’s program until the very day. Participants embarked on a Riviera adventure, driving their vintage cars through picturesque landscapes. A gastronomic delight awaited them at “Le Mas des Geraniums,” a delightful Provencal farmhouse. HelloMonaco was there to record the day unfolding with Speakeasy entertainment, afternoon coffee, and moments of delight, including a tombola, quiz, and afternoon tea in Eze Village. The grand finale took place in Monaco Ville, with champagne cocktails and the Awards Ceremony graced by HSH Princess Stephanie.
Yet, beneath the veneer of elegance and enjoyment lies a profound purpose. The rally is a symbol of support for underprivileged girls in some of the world’s most impoverished regions. Ackermann has revealed over the years in conversations with HelloMonaco that the first school in India was founded in 2013 in Rajasthan, catering to 60 girls. Through their sponsorship program, these girls receive essential support, including clothing, medical care, daily meals, and culturally aligned Hindi and English classes. Child CARE Monaco’s impact has grown significantly with the establishment of more schools and the initiation of new projects, all made possible by the proceeds from events like the Vintage Rally and the generosity of individual donors.
In essence, the Ladies Vintage Rally for Charity is more than just an event; it’s a testament to the enduring blend of style and compassion. It’s a celebration of a bygone era, a showcase of automotive elegance, and, most importantly, a beacon of hope for girls in need around the world.
To get a glimpse of the rally’s enduring charm and impact, we can look back at the previous years’ events. In 2022, the 9th Ladies Rally of Vintage Cars donned a Steampunk theme. The rally took them on a glamorous adventure, complete with surprises, tea time, and a raffle, all contributing to the noble cause championed by Child CARE Monaco.
Princess Grace Themed Rally
The 2019 edition of the rally paid homage to Princess Grace, celebrating the 90th anniversary of her birth. The theme for the ladies’ chic outfits was inspired by the flowered dress she wore when she first met Prince Rainier. The event showcased not only beautiful cars but also the beauty of the heart, as it aimed to support underprivileged children in India.
The day’s grand finale was graced by the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert, who congratulated the team and encouraged Child CARE Monaco’s charitable efforts. Martine Ackermann also shared her plans for a library bus initiative in the slums of Jaipur, India, aimed at giving underprivileged children access to books and education.
Back to the 2023 Ladies Vintage Rally for Charity which had continued this tradition of elegance, fun, and heartfelt charity. Reflecting on past editions and the enduring commitment of participants and organizers, it’s clear that this annual event has not only become a highlight of Monaco’s social calendar but also a powerful force for good, supporting education and empowerment for underprivileged children in India and beyond.
