There is so much to see and do in Monaco, it’s hard to choose, and this art exhibition of the Master’s Collection is no exception. The exhibition has been open since September 12 and will continue through November, so you still have time to see it. If you are looking for a pleasant and cultural outing this autumn, then go and have a look!
The collection can be seen at Galerie De Jonckheere, famous art gallery presents 26 works in the framework of “Opening Monaco, Masters’ Collection” divided into two exhibition rooms.
The first room allows the visitor to contemplate works by Flemish painters from the sixteenth to the seventeenth century, among which you can see: the “Lucrece stabbing” by Cranach alongside a Marian procession and a winter landscape by Bruegel, with images of the old and the young under the gaze of monkeys stealing the fruits of Snyders. At their side peasants play Teniers cards. These scenes are charming to behold.
Another work, a beautiful and meticulous study of butterflies by Kessel beautifully illustrates the eponymous poem by G. De Nerval, of which here is an extract:
“Here is the wildlife butterfly
Black and yellow;
Here is the azure march,
Waving Sparks
On his wings
Of a rich and rippling velvet.”
The other room transports us to the 20th century with a series of paintings by contemporary artists. The surrealist Magritte, Castellani, the flat surfaces of Nicolas de Stael, Dubuffet, the lacerations of Fontana, Melotti, a colourful mobile by Calder and finally the Monegasque artist Philippe Pastor symbolise the current works of modern art.
The concise but interesting and instructive exhibition is worth the detour to the Larvotto.
Further details of the exhibition: Galerie De Jonckheere, 27 avenue Princesse Grace (Monaco), from 12 September to 10 November, 2017.
You won’t regret spending time at this fascinating art exhibition of Master artists.
