After six months on the island of Yumeshima, the Monaco Pavilion has officially closed its doors at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. One of 160 participating nations, the Principality’s Pavilion managed to attract even more visitors than it initially estimated.

“With nearly 1.5 million visitors, representing more than 5% of the Expo’s total attendance of almost 28 million people, the Pavilion successfully established its place within this major international event,” said the Prince’s Government in a recent press release.

Prince Albert II, Princess Stephanie and Princess Hisako visit the Monaco Pavilion

The Monaco Pavilion’s emblematic olive tree — a symbol of peace and resilience — was gifted to the City of Osaka during a ceremony attended by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Hideyuki Yokoyama, Mayor of Osaka.

Inaugurated on 13 April 2025, the Monaco Pavilion, led by HE Mireille Martini, Commissioner General, relied on a team of around fifty people from Monaco and Japan to ensure its smooth operation.

Two months after opening, Prince Albert II, Princess Stephanie, Pauline Ducruet, Camille Gottlieb, Louis Ducruet and Marie Chevallier travelled to Japan to participate in the official ceremony of Monaco’s National Day at the World Expo. The Princely Family, accompanied by Princess Hisako, visited the Japan and Monaco Pavilions on June 28, 2025.

Environmental adventures

The theme of the Monaco pavilion, “Take Care of Wonder”, aimed to raise awareness about environmental themes through immersive experiences. Located in the “Connecting Lives” area, the Monaco Pavilion featured large walls of animated screens that invites visitors on a journey to the depths of the sea.
