Monaco’s Anse du Portier Project Update: First Caisson is Afloat

The first of 18 caissons destined for Monaco’s Anse du Portier project has been completed.  Workers have been constructing the Marco Polo (the name of the caisson) since September in Marseilles. The completion of the imposing concrete structure, which draws 13 metres of water and is the most complex part of the project, has been set afloat before being towed to the Principality. Meanwhile, work has already begun on the next caisson.

56 metres long, 50 metres wide and 27 metres high, the Marco Polo was designed by the D2M Var study office in Six-Fours, who also work on the study of mooring, access pontoons as well as concrete caissons. The construction of the floating dock was entrusted to Polish shipyard Crist de Gdansk.
