SBM appoints Alfonso Ciulla as New Artistic Director

The SBM’s new Deputy Artistic Director, Alfonso Ciulla, was appointed by Deputy Chairman Stephane Valeri on Monday 3 July. After joining the Artistic Direction team of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, Alfonso Ciulla was using his experience in the Principality to assist the current Artistic Director, Gilles Marsan, before succeeding him at the end of this year.

“Working in this environment was my childhood dream. Coming to exercise my passion at the Société des Bains de Mer sounds like an accomplishment to me. I am honoured and eager to challenge myself and participate in great projects,” says Alfonso Ciulla.

Alfonso Ciulla’s previous roles include Artistic Director of the Grimaldi Forum from 2001 to June 2023, which is valuable experience for his new job. At the SBM, he will be working in all aspects of the field, including programming, something that became his specialty in his previous role at the Grimaldi Forum.

At the Principality’s congress and entertainment centre, Alfonso Ciulla developed an eclectic musical programme which combined concerts, solo musicians and musicals. In 2015, he created “Thursday Live Sessions” at the Grimaldi Forum. This concept offers monthly live concerts, open to all, which highlight talent from all walks of life and offer unique musical experiences. Passionate about all musical genres (he has several thousand records in his personal collection) the new Artistic Director has a particular fondness for rock, R’n’B and soul. Alfonso Ciulla’s new role will put him at the forefront of programming for the iconic group, known for its legendary concerts.

Since 2007, the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has been committed to Monaco’s energy transition, through the consumption of resources and waste, local gastronomy and preservation of natural heritage. As the Principality’s leading private employer, the Group launched its 4th ethics charter in 2023 to convey its values of integrity and responsibility in the practice of its businesses.
