Sofiane Diop and Youssouf Fofana surprise Young Footballers

Children at the AS Monaco football school had a big surprise last week when pro footballers, Sofiane Diop and Youssouf Fofana, paid them a visit. Accompanied by the Club’s mascot, Bouba, the two star midfielders showed up during training for the U6s, U7s and U8s. The surprise visit was organized by AS Monacoeur, a program which strives to provide magical moments to young ASM football athletes and fans.

“Sofiane Diop and Youssouf Fofana paid a visit to the future Red and White champions. Magical moments shared in the field, to the delight of children,” said AS Monacoeur on social media.

Under glorious skies on the ASM training field in La Turbie, the 80 children enjoyed exclusive workshops with the two midfielders. Jean-Jacques Raffaele, mayor of La Turbie, came down to witness the joyful moment. The young footballers were full of curiosity and sought advice from the two professionals, who answered all the children’s eager questions and signed autographs.

Born in Paris in 1999, Youssouf Fofana played for three Parisian clubs (Espérance Paris, Red Star, and JA Drancy) before joining RC Strasbourg Alsace’s academy in 2017. The central midfielder finally played for the first time in Ligue 1 in the 2018/2019 season, against Olympique Lyonnais. A few months later, he scored his first goal, against AS Monaco! Regularly called up to the French youth teams, Youssouf Fofana currently plays as a midfielder for the Principality’s Ligue 1 club.

Born in Tours, Sofiane Diop is a technical midfielder who is focused on the offensive. He arrived at Stade Rennais in 2015 where he joined the training centre, the former French international U19 (seven caps, three goals). Courted by several European clubs, he chose AS Monaco during the summer of 2018. At the start of the 2021-2022 season, he extended his contract until 2026 and scored his first double against Troyes.
