Life of the little Principality of Monaco is full of events and this week is no exeption. Make sure you didn’t miss anything important.
1. Keeping Monaco healthy with Susan Tomassini: Low-Fat vs Full-Fat?
As the shift towards eating more natural, wholesome foods becomes more popular, whole milk dairy products are often promoted as a healthier, purer and more nutritious choice than “processed” low-fat alternatives. They also tend to taste better. And with research now casting doubt on the long-held assumption that low-fat products are useful for weight loss – so should you abandon low-fat and reduced fat for good?
2. Lagerfeld and the Bal de la Rose
This year’s Bal de la Rose (now it was its 63rd year that took place yesterday, on 18 March) was designed by the illustrious Karl Lagerfeld, a close friend of Princess Caroline of Hanover. Lagerfeld had chosen the Vienna Secession art movement as inspiration for the ball. The refined Secession style flourished in Austria and throughout Europe from 1892 to 1906 and has been selected as the representation of Monaco’s modern-day glamour. Think bright golds, Gustave Klimt and Otto Wagner!
3. Monaco Yacht Show Organisation acquires five largest boat shows
The organiser of the Monaco Yacht Show, Informa Exhibitions, announced in March that it has bought Yachting Promotions, the operator of three of the largest boat shows in the USA.
The deal, which is worth $133 million, will see Informa take over the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Yachts Miami Beach and the Palm Beach International Boat Show, as well as the smaller St. Petersburg Power and Sailboat Show and the Suncoast Boat Show in Sarasota.
4. New developments take over the Principality
From east to west, not a single entrance to the Principality can escape a scene of construction. From Operation Testomonio, between Saint-Roman and the Larvotto, to the equipment on the Ilot Pasteur, passing by the site of the hospital. At the West entrance, along the Boulevard du Jardin-Exotique, works are progressing well and are creating a new landscape in the district, which gains in public facilities what it loses in rural charm. A large deterrent parking lot, a large-scale real estate project, a new space for the greenhouses of the exotic garden, a 66 luxury apartment complex. From the entrance of the downward tunnel to the Villa Paloma roundabout.
5. Legendary Wine Cellar under the Hotel de Paris
Daily deliveries fill wooden lockers. The bottles are arranged in themed aisles: Bordeaux, Loire, Burgundy … “Nothing is mechanized, everything is done by hand,” says Gennaro proudly. “Most people think of it like going to a museum, but it is a service like any other. Like lingerie or pastries.”
The princely couple greeted the young players before the match. The Monegasques lost to the South African team 6-0.
The 7th edition of the Sainte Dévote tournament organized by the Monegasque Rugby Federation and the Princess Charlene de Monaco Foundation took place at Louis II. Smiling, Prince and Princess met the players one by one, ranked by team and proudly displaying their flag. Significant attention was paid to these little rugby prodigies, some of which have traveled thousands of kilometres, like the Cape Town team, the happy winners of this tournament.
7. Monaco Economic Board: 2016 results and 2017 outlook
The Monaco Economic Board (MEB) held its General Assembly on Thursday 16 of March with more than 200 participants from its 470 member companies and numerous personalities. The 2016 balance sheet and 2017 outlook were presented and all proposals were approved. The Committee Director has been renewed, as it has been for the last 3 years. At the end of the General Assembly, HE Mr. Serge Telle, Minister of State, made a speech, recalling the strong support of the Government for the actions carried out by the MEB.
8. Russian billioner under investigation in Cap d’Antibes
Billioner deputy Suleyman Kerimov could be the real owner of a property complex larger than 90,000 m2. The financial conditions of some of his acquisitions are being investigated.
9. The lost piece of the monegasque patrimonial collection
A valuable painting had been taken from the Oceanographic Museum in 2000 and has recently been returned safely.
All is well that ends well, but like all the police stories, it started badly. On 16 December 2000, the Livorno Museum of Natural History in Italy was burgled during the night. The thief escaped with three works of art, including a painting by Louis Tinayre, which the Oceanographic Museum had lent for an exhibition. A work from the patrimonial collection had disappeared.
10. Florestan I – A prince of Monaco through no choice of his own
HelloMonaco continues its series about the rulers of Monaco and today we will introduce you to Florestan I who was in power from 1841 to 1856. It must be said that little information is available about this Prince. Perhaps because he managed to lose more than half of his territory, namely: Menton and Roquebrune. Even though these two cities officially became part of France during the reign of Charles III, Monaco had lost them much earlier.
