Prince Albert II follows in the footsteps of Prince Louis II
On Tuesday 18 July 2017, HSH Prince Albert II visited Cormicy (Marne) during a trip commemorating the centenary of the First World War. ‘Coast 186’ of the island was used to observe German forces by the French front. Prince Albert I had visited the observation point on 9 August 1916, not far from the famous “Chemin des Dames”. Hereditary Prince Louis, then a volunteer in the French army, a liaison officer for the Fifth Army who controlled the territory, had accompanied his father. Welcomed by Dominique Decaudin, Mayor of Cormicy, Prince Albert II climbed several hundred meters to reach the strategic location, where there is a casemate in the middle of a forest which is still scarred by the war. On this occasion, the Prince unveiled a signpost, installed through an initiative by the patrimonial association, entitled “Cormicy, the city, its history”.
Successful first auction for graffiti artists and Prince Albert II Foundation
On the other side of the Principality, Artcurial abandoned luxury for the smell of paint and sea air: a charity sale for the Prince Albert II Foundation took place on the Quai Albert-l as part of the “Urban painting around the world” event. The gap between comfortable lounges and spray paint isn’t an issue for Arnaud Oliveux, auctioneer, who jumped at the opportunity: “A chance to leave traditional sales: here I can afford to make things count and seek out buyers to raise as much money as possible.” The famous auction house will not see a single penny from the funds it raised, since it carried out this auction voluntarily. From 650 euros per suitcase, personalized with spray paint, to 14,000 euros for a triptych by John Crash Matos. An excellent deal for the highest bidder, since the New York graffiti star, known for the reality show “Secret Story”, has already sold several pieces for several hundreds of thousands of euros.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and BirdLife committed to the protection of penguins
Created in 2011 by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the goal of the “Summer Dream” evening events is to bring together, for just one night, talented individuals who are sensitive to the environmental causes defended by the Foundation. This year, the Serbian violin virtuoso, Nemanja Radulovic, the winner of the Victoires de la Musique in 2014, enchanted all art and music lovers on 18th July 2017 with his ensemble “Double Sens”. His latest recording devoted to Bach featured on the program of this exceptional evening organized in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.
The aim of this evening of music with a dinner created by Paolo Sari, a Michelin starred chef, was to support a joint project conducted by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and one of its longstanding partners, BirdLife International, for the protection of penguins, of which ten out of eighteen species are critically endangered.
Two stunning choreographies were presented in the packed Garnier Hall, in the presence of Princess Caroline
Jeroen Verbruggen, choreographer and former star dancer of the Monte-Carlo Ballet, created a piece set to new jazz and performed to an audience that included Princess Caroline of Hanover. Verbruggen entitled the ballet “Mâssacre”. Another creation entitled “Memento mori” by the famous Belgian-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui was also performed. This ballet completes a trilogy begun in previous years with “In memoriam” and “Mea culpa”. Both performances enchanted the audience.
