Travel Time: New device for Monegasque Drivers

Nearly 20,000 vehicles use the A500 motorway, the junction between Monaco and the A8 motorway, every day, most often for commuting.  To help drivers learn more about traffic conditions, the Prince’s Government, through the Urban Development Department, VINCI Autoroutes and the Nice Cote d’Azur Metropolis have developed an information system entitled ‘Travel time’ for the A500 motorway, the RM 6007 and within the Principality itself.

Travel times will be displayed on variable message information panels. Users will be able to estimate their time of arrival, in both directions of circulation. VINCI Autoroutes presently provides several resources which allow drivers to learn about traffic conditions on the motorway.*

To optimize this information, the Princely Government and VINCI Autoroutes, in partnership with the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, have set up 8 travel time sensors, located at strategic points between the A8 motorway and the centre of Monaco, a very busy route.

In total, VINCI Autoroutes provides 12 different travel times to the Urban Development Department, which manage the display. The location of the panels and sensors are defined on a map.

8 billboards allow motorists from Monaco to benefit from the main travel times between:

– Monaco and the A8 motorway

– Monaco and certain destination points along the A8 (Nice Airport, Côte d’Azur, Cannes, Aix-en-Provence…).

Drivers will also benefit from Travel Time displays on several message boards along the A8 motorway towards Monaco-Fontvieille and Monte-Carlo, and on 4 signs between the A500 motorway and Monaco.
