Women Make 18.1% Less than Men in Monaco’s Private Sector

Biggest employer in Monaco is the Private Sector

According to the IMSEE’s first Employment Observatory, at the end of 2025, there were 77,866 jobs in the Principality. More than 70,000 of those jobs, or nine out of ten, are salaried positions (90.1%). Nearly 65,000 are in the private sector (83.2%), with the remainder in the Civil service (5,393 jobs, or 6.9%). There were also 7,703 self-employed jobs are recorded (9.9%).

Average Salary in the Private Sector

The median salary for private-sector employees is €3,475 per month, an increase of 4.1% or €136 compared to 2024. The average salary is €5,195, an increase of 5.4% or €265 compared to 2024.

“One in five employees earns between €2,500 and €3,000 per month,” says the IMSEE.

The institute published a graph showing the curve of salaries. At the very top, is earners making over €15,000 per month (2.9%). The biggest chunk is taken by people making between €2,500-€3,000 per month (20.1%).

The IMSEE converted salaries into their “full-time equivalent” meaning that salaries were converted to 169 hours per month, regardless of the actual volume of paid work performed. Salaries were also measured including bonuses and before any deductions or levies.

Sectors with the Highest Salaries

The sector with the highest paying MES (median gross monthly salary for a full-time equivalent) is financial and insurance activities at €6,858 per month. Second-place is professional, scientific and technical activities at €4,697. Third-place is IT, telecommunications and media at €4,373.

The three lowest paying MESs are real estate activities (€3,097), other service activities (€3,028) and administrative and support service activities (€2,764).

Women are underrepresented among the highest earners

Women make up only 16.5% of the top 1% highest earners. The average salary for women is 18.1% lower or (€1,010 less) when compared with men for a full-time equivalent in the private sector.
