Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline attend Palace Frescoes Symposium at Oceanographic Museum

The Sovereign and the Princess of Hanover attended “Images of Renaissance Sovereignty – Ten Years of Discoveries and Restoration of Frescoes in the Prince’s Palace of Monaco,” on 19 March at the Oceanographic Museum.

In his opening remarks, Prince Albert II spoke about the stories behind the works of art, stories chosen to adorn the palace walls by Monegasque Lords of the 16th century. Hidden under layers of paint for centuries, the Palace’s secret frescoes were first discovered by sheer luck in 2015. Placed under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, the conservation and restoration projects have strengthened the Palace of Monaco’s place in the history of global art.

About 1,200 guests (chefs, journalists and industry professionals) gathered to honour the hard-working people in the restaurant business. Monaco shone during the event: the Robuchon Monaco restaurant, led by chef Jonathan Larrieu, earned its first star; the Michelin Service Award was presented to Marco Tognon (Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac); and Chef Michaël Arnoult (Les Morainières in Savoie) was awarded a third star. Monaco has a long history with the guide. In its very first edition, published in 1900, three hotels in Monaco were mentioned, including the Hôtel de Paris.
