Thomas Battaglione, Deputy President of the SMA, explained that the plant remains an unparalleled model of integration.  The steam generated by waste treatment produces electricity which, combined with thermal energy from the sea, is distributed by SMEG to a large part of Fontvieille.  The plant is also looking ahead to future plans that are in line with the Sovereign’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Princely Family christens Pirates of the Abyss Ship

On Thursday night on the Quai Louis-II, Prince Albert, Princess Charlene, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella attended the christening of the Pirates of the Abyss and Fougasse, two ships belonging to the Monegasque Federation of Underwater Activities (FMAS). The Pirates of the Abyss, painted in the colours of the Principality and pirate black, has already transported more than 400 students on voyages which helped them learn about nature and pick up important life-lessons about courage, sharing and commitment to the environment.

The ceremony began with a touching speech by Pierre Frolla, followed by a benediction by the Archbishop of Monaco.  Princess Charlene then christened the pirate ship by breaking a bottle across the ship’s hull. Prince Albert II then did the same on the Fougasse, a ship for the scuba diving club. The two christened boats can now continue their journeys as tools of education and the environment.
