AS Monaco go second with big win

The Monegasques cruised to a comfortable win at Angers on Saturday evening (0-4) to reclaim second spot in the Ligue 1 table.

A diligent display laced with attacking inspiration saw the Monegasques claim a valuable victory at Angers on Saturday evening (0-4). Significantly, the result lifts them back into second place in the table ahead of Marseille and Lyon, with a boost to their goal difference.

Leonardo Jardim’s men took the lead inside ten minutes, and never looked back. It was the unfortunate Butelle who put through his own net to hand the visitors the advantage, after silky skills from Diakhaby down the left (10’, 0-1). Monaco doubled their lead when Diakhaby once again caused havoc – this time on the right – and set up Jovetic superbly. The Montenegrin finished with aplomb, dinking the ball over Butelle (30’, 0-2).

Returning after an absence of several matches, Thomas Lemar took just two minutes to add to his impressive stats, seizing on a long pass from Fabinho before unselfishly playing in Jovetic for his second of the night (65’, 0-3). To round off the perfect evening, Raggi got himself on the scoresheet, popping up in the box to slam home Tielemans’ cross (71’, 0-4). The Red & Whites are now unbeaten in ten matches in Ligue 1, the best run of any side in the division currently.
