Footballers Award Ceremony

The best young player, best goalie and best coach returned to ASM representatives on Monday at the UNFP trophy awards ceremony. The Parisian Cavani was crowned best player.

Monaco clearly in the spotlight

AS Monaco have been strong this season, with a championship title almost in their pockets, 102 goals scored in Ligue 1 and an exceptional performance in the cups (final in the Coupe de la Ligue, semi-final in the French Cup and League of champions). The club du Rocher was therefore widely honoured this Monday, at the trophy award ceremony UNFP. Although not all players could be in Paris for the Awards ceremony because of the Wednesday match, some of them had to stay in Monaco where they received there trophies on the gala evening organized in the new restaurant of the President of Monaco’s football club AS Monaco Dmitry Rybolovlev “Bagatelle”, which has just been opened in the beginning of May and already marked by such a festive event.

Kylian Mbappé (18) first received the title of the best young player of Ligue 1. The player scored 25 goals and 14 assists in 42 matches all competitions, of which 14 goals and 11 assists in 27 L1 matches. He has been a real revelation. He was in competition with Thomas Lemar (Monaco), Adrien Rabiot (PSG) and Wylan Cyprien (Nice), who succeeded the former Rennais Ousmane Dembélé. The coach Leonardo Jardim, 42, succeeded Laurent Blanc (2015 and 2016). Jardim was mocked for his defensive pragmatism last season – “In 2015, I won the gold trowel,” he said, and his win has rewarded his team’s appealing game style, as they scored 102 goals in the championship this season. He was up against Unai Emery (PSG), Lucien Favre (Nice) and Jocelyn Gourvennec (Bordeaux). Finally, Danijel Subasic was named best goalkeeper ahead of Anthony Lopes (Lyon), Baptiste Reynet (Dijon) and Kevin Trapp (PSG). Steve Mandanda (ex-OM) was honoured with this prize the past two years.

This Monaco team is also widely represented in the L1 type team. We find six ASers in this group of eleven, of which Mbappé (best young player) and Subasic (best guardian). Three Parisians received awards, including Edinson Cavani, but also the Niçois Jean Michaël Seri and the Lyonnais Alexandre Lacazette.

The Ligue 1:

Djibril Sidibé (Monaco) – Jean Michaël Seri (Nice), Marco Verratti (PSG), Bernado Silva (Monaco) – Alexandre Dufour (Monaco) – Benjamin Mendy Lacazette (Lyon), Edinson Cavani (PSG), Kylian Mbappé (Monaco).

The most dominating Ligue 1 player is Cavani

Honours have been given for PSG Gunner, one goal per game. Edinson Cavani has been named the best player in our league this Monday at the UNFP trophy award ceremony. A title that Zlatan Ibrahimovic received three times over the past four years, the Lyonnais Alexandre Lacazette having broken that winning streak in 2015. Of which Lacazette was among the contenders this season again, with Bernardo Silva (Monaco) and Marco Verratti (PSG ). 30-year-old Edinson Cavani scored 49 goals in 48 games in all competitions in the 2016-17 season.

Kanté stronger than Griezmann and Benzema

Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) and Ousmane Dembele (Dortmund) were in the running for the title of best French player abroad. But it was N’Golo Kanté who took the prize. The Chelsea midfielder has already inherited the title of best player in the Premier League, rewarded both by his peers and the press. Performances that greatly contributed to the good season of the London club, crowned England champion after a dull season 2015-16.
