Prince Albert U17 Sabre Challenge

There are several very different athletic events this weekend. The first one is Prince Albert U17 Sabre Challenge on Saturday 3 June and Sunday 4 June, Salle Omnisport Gaston Médecin, and Salle d’Armes Fernand Prat du Stade Louis II. This event if both for boys and girls. 7 nations have already registered including representatives of the French Fencing Federation with its best sabre-fencers who will also participate with different French Clubs. We expect more than 100 sabre-fencers.

Riviera Water Bike Challenge

The other sporting event is a world premier, Monaco will host the Riviera Water Bike Challenge (RWBC) on Sunday, June 4, 2017, in support of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. The 21 kilometers between Nice and Monaco will be travelled on Schiller S1 water bikes.

Leaving the port of Nice and heading east to arrive at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Club, 40 participants will make up 10 international teams pedalling Schiller S1 water bikes in a 21-kilometre relay race. There will be two sports personalities per team plus two places available for amateurs, selected by raffle on March 24.

The Schiller S1 water bike, developed by American Judah Schiller, reportedly on a dare, “uses an optimised propeller, proprietary gear box and Gates Carbon Drive belts”. It’s essentially a bike atop of parallel hulls, much like a catamaran, with a 2-foot (0.6 metre) wide frame. In calm waters, the average speed is 8 mph, although pros can reach more than 10 mph.

barbagiuan-top

And the last but not the least event for a whole family to enjoy is the Feast of the Barbagiuan that will take place on 3 and 4 June from 8h30 to 17h30 at Market of the Condamine. These two days will be marked by conviviality, culture and gluttony. All the participants will be able to put their hands to the “dough”, to put the Barbagiuan in their mouths, to listen to the most beautiful stories, but also for the little ones, to participate in a gigantic “Barbagiuan Hunting” organized in collaboration with the Directorate of National Education of Youth and Sports.
