AS Monaco held to 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig

AS Monaco got their European campaign under way tonight with a 1-1 draw at Leipzig, which saw Leonardo Jardim’s men hit back quickly after falling behind.

Claiming a good point away from home, AS Monaco kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig. With Thomas Lemar and Danijel Subasic missing, the line-up had a different look from recent games, as Diego Benaglio and Youri Tielemans both started the game, along with Almamy Touré.

After a fairly evenly matched opening half hour, the German side went ahead through Forsberg. Leonardo Jardim’s men were unfazed though, and hit back straight away as Tielemans leveled the scores within two minutes, pouncing on a knock-down from Diakhaby after a fine cross from Touré.

The second half was also a well fought contest, with chances for both sides. Glik cleared off the line to rescue the visitors (59’), while Leipzig did well to avert the danger when Diakhaby led an attack three-on-one in the 70th minute. Late on, Benaglio had to be alert to deny Werner (79’) and keep out a rasping effort from Augustin (83’). AS Monaco’s next match in the Champions League is at home in two weeks when they host FC Porto, who fell to a home defeat against Besiktas (1-3).
