The Red & Whites were pegged back late on at the end of a hard-fought contest, dropping two points at home ahead of the international break.
Watched by the two new members of the AS Monaco eSports Team, Vinch and Rayziaah who were given the honour of taking the symbolic kick-off, the match started in quiet fashion. Montpellier were the first to threaten, as in the eighth minute Sessegnon ran on to a cut back and hammered a powerful effort at goal that shaved the woodwork. Subasic marked his 150th appearance for AS Monaco in Ligue 1 with a save from Mendes’ dangerous effort in the 19th minute.
The Red & Whites then went close themselves through Lemar’s 25 yard free-kick on 24 minutes, but the France man’s shot sailed past Lecomte’s left-hand post. As so often this season, it was El Tigre who produced the breakthrough. Rony Lopes went on the counter down the right and found Falcao at the far post with a perfect ball on 38 minutes. The captain launched himself at steered home to give the Monegasques a half-time lead.
The Columbian was close to adding a second in the 51st minute, after Jovetic’s shot rebounded to him, but he was taken by surprise and missed the target. Chances were at a premium until the 80th minute when Jovetic found Lemar with a measured through ball, but the French international put his shot wide. With AS Monaco looking all set for their seventh win of the season, Camara popped up with an injury-time equaliser… The Red & Whites’ next outing is at Olympique Lyonnais in a fortnight’s time.
