Monte Carlo Beach Sweeps the Best Hotels in the World Green Awards in Paris – 1st Prize

Hotel and Lodge Magazine just put on a spectacular event in Paris to unwrap its 2022 winners for the best hotels in the world.

And being “green” has taken over their imagination as love for the environment and ecology radiate out from Monaco to join enthusiasts all over the Globe.

For the very first time, this year in 2022 there is a special Hotel & Lodge Green prize. This is the editorial staff’s favourite for a hotel resolutely committed to an eco-responsible and sustainable development approach.

There are many contenders for this distinction and from them The Monte-Carlo Beach in Monaco was unveiled this last week heading the ranking of its best hotels around the world in the Green category. The Monte-Carlo Beach, in Monaco, received the 1st Special Prize.

Which led to this quote in the press from Daniele Garcelon, general manager of the establishment: “My teams and I receive this award with joy and humility; as recognition and strong encouragement in the pursuit of our daily commitment”.

While all our attentions have been distracted by Covid, SBM’s Monte Carlo Beach in 2021 has been focussing on a major project to create yet more environmentally friendly marine and beach surrounds.

Biodiversity was the watchword, including the positioning of a breakwater that functions as a biodiversity reef. If you swim out 100m from the shore you will see underwater this reef which is designed to protect the beach and allow the development of marine life in a protected type of oasis.

Not only that but the pine forest and its surrounds perched above the hotel at Pointe la Vigie have been classified “League for the Protection of Birds” (LPO).

Did you know that there are many protected species breeding there – up to 20 are reported. The Monte-Carlo Beach extended sanctuary is becoming a critical refuge that is important for local biodiversity.

Green Globe Status

Green Globe certified, SBM’s Monte-Carlo Beach has been early into sustainability. Already for many years now it has been committed to a zero plastic policy, waste recycling and radical and forceful management of energy and some water.

Very First “Green-Themed” Star in the Michelin Guide – Elsa

The same values of eco-responsibility flow down to the cuisine. Elsa is the first restaurant with 100% organic food and wild-caught fish to receive a star from the prestigious Michelin Guide. Elsa offers seasonal, local and organic cuisine, with sublime flavours targeted to create total well-being for both the body and spirit. With its 100% organic and wild-caught menu, it is also certified Ecocert level 3.

Being eco-responsible nowadays has reversed the trend to transporting commercially farmed produce long distances.

Quite the opposite at Elsa restaurant where they work closely with local producers to favour perfectly ripe seasonal products . Featured are the estates and local gardens like the Jardin des Antipodes in Menton specializing in aromatic herbs and fruits. For organic vegetables at kilometer 0 the Domaine d’Agerbol on the heights of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin bring their fresh produce to Elsa straight from the ground to the table.

Congratulations to SBM’s Monte Carlo Beach – 2022 winner of 1st Special Prize in the green category from Hotel & Lodge, the reference tourist magazine.

The Green Prize was awarded at the 3rd Hotel & Lodge Awards ceremony at the Pavillon Cambon (Paris) on Thursday 24 March.
