Results of the Princess of Monaco Cup Celebrity Golf Tournament

The Princess of Monaco Cup celebrity golf tournament, organized by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, teed off on 6 September at the Monte-Carlo Golf Club. Nineteen celebrities from across Europe, South Africa, Qatar, Canada, Australia and the US participated in the tournament.

Prince Albert II makes the first swing

Competition began bright and early at 7:30 am, with teams of two players plus one celebrity, who played in the “Scramble” format. The first swing was made by Prince Albert the II, playing for the Serenity Team. Special prizes were at stake during the entire tournament, including “Nearest to the pin”,“Longest drive” and “Hole in one”.

Place de Casino turns green

In the evening, the tournament ended with the 19th golf hole, which was set up on a temporary green right on the Place du Casino. Princess Charlene swung first at the Jardins des Boulingrins, 64 metres from the flag located in the centre of the Place du Casino. Pierre Dartout, Minister of State and Stéphane Valéri, Président-Délégué of the Société des Bains de Mer were also in attendance. 

Each participant tried to win the “Hole in one” prize: a Verge TS Pro electric motorbike branded with the Foundation’s logo. A second “Nearest to the pin” award was won when a golfball landed just 22 centimetres from the flag.

The winners…

1st place: Monako with Richard Bland (professional golfer from the UK)

2nd place: Powers with Mutaz Essa Barshim (track ad field athlete from Qatar)

3rd place: Monaco Cavaliers with Lee Westwood (professional golfer from the UK)

Special prizes were won by Karin Stent-Torriani (Monaco Asset Management team) for “Longest drive” (woman) with a 198 metre shot, Oscar Klefbom (hockey player, Monaco Asset Management team) for “Longest drive” (man) with a 320 metre shot and Steven Ferguson (Illusion team) for “Nearest to the pin” with the ball landing 5 meters 80 from the flag.

The Princess of Monaco Cup was held for the first time in 2019. Funds from the charity golf tournament support the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation’s educational projects for drowning prevention and teaching children through the values of sport.
