Monegasque Children participate in ‘Le Temps Presse’ Film Festival and other Monaco news

Last week in Monaco was a not only very interesting but also tasty, as two major gastronomy events were taking place in the Principality. However it’s there is much more to this week!

22nd Monte-Carlo Gastronomie: Food and wine lovers go, go, go!

What a challenge – how to experience all this that is on display at one’s fingertips or should I say “at the tip of my tongue”. If you are a “foodie” – you are going to die and go to heaven.

There are myriads of exhibition stands – if you do a tasting at each stand, one is in danger of having to loosen one’s clothes at the end of the day. I will be in the gym for a month recovering from my own two-day visit.

International film festival ‘Le Temps Presse’ asked 309 Monegasque students to judge 5 short films. The 8 to 14 year olds picked their favourites by filling out short questionnaires at the end of each film. The young jury was created by the festival to give children a voice. Big themes about sustainable development, disabilities, accepting differences and how to deal with inequality were portrayed during the screening.

Is 100,000 euros per square meter the new benchmark? At least in the medium term as we approach the year 2025. Or could predictions match that of Bitcoin, whose supply is also limited, giving some people to look into their crystal balls and conjecture a million euros a square metre.  Let’s keep our feet on the ground in Monaco where the Knight Frank report is telling us the average price is currently 53,000 euros per square meter  with the premium properties commanding over 100,000  euros per square meter. Scarcity of supply and an unquenchable demand is driving prices higher and higher.

Does anywhere in Europe celebrate Christmas more gloriously than Monaco? Not if the Mairie and its elected councillors have anything to do with it. Recently they have turned on the lights so that 190 motifs and designs now blaze and sparkle on Monaco’s streets together with 577 lighted decorations adorning the lamp-posts overhead. One listens to people commenting that the decorations are amongst the best they have ever seen. Monaco is the showplace of the world and the international visitors that gather and gaze with amazement are proof of it. And for Monaco’s residents it puts joy into their hearts and a spring in their steps as they browse the shops and galleries and gather in the restaurants who all add their own unique decorations to make Monaco a dazzling painting.

Are we seeing double? Are those Monaco colours or diamond-backed playing cards?
You choose in which fantasy you wish to be carried away in today. It is a play on the imagination anyway – this striking redecoration of the Atrium lobby of Salle Garnier.
You may feel that you have fallen down a rabbit hole in Alice and Wonderland. And here if you wander into the adjoining gaming rooms you will indeed find the Queen of Diamonds and the Queen of Hearts but not the Mad Hatter. Because there is no madness here, rather a creative strategy to attract a broader market of clients for the Casino, including players who have moderate budgets and would enjoy a flutter in Monte Carlo.
