The Sovereign began his trip to Africa by visiting Madagascar, before travelling to Yaoundé, Cameroon, and completing his trip by attending the 4th Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, from 29 October to 1 November 2026.

In Akamasoa, Madagascar, alongside Father Pedro Opeka, whose association has been supported by the Sovereign for nearly 25 years, Prince Albert II inaugurated a middle school in the presence of 12,000 students. In Antananarivo, the Sovereign met with the teams behind the “Sandratra” project, which is supported by Monaco’s Department of International Cooperation (DCI), to learn about the project’s initiatives for children living on the streets. To conclude his trip to Madagascar, the Prince visited the 67HA dispensary run by SISAL, an initiative supported by Monaco’s Department of International Cooperation (DCI) and Fight Aids Monaco, where he learned about initiatives for people living with HIV.

In Yaoundé, twenty-three years after the Sovereign’s first visit, the Prince visited the Edimar Princess Grace Centre, a private facility supported by the “Monaco Aide et Présence” association. Founded by Father Maurizio Bezzi in 2002, the centre provides care and guidance to vulnerable children and young people. Prince Albert II then met with President of Cameroon, Paul Biya.

Prince Albert II attends Presentation about Bees

The Sovereign attended a presentation on the work of the French Apidology Observatory (OFA), held in Marignane on Monday 26 October. Attended by various academic and institutional figures, the presentation touched upon a recent expedition to Rwanda in 2025 which studied the diversity of Propolis (often called bee glue) across different regions. Bees use propolis to fill tiny gaps in their hives, and it acts as an antiseptic barrier, stopping bacteria, fungi, and viruses from spreading inside the colony. Studying propolis has led the OFA to an innovation: a formulation designed for acne-prone skin. Beyond human health, the OFA is also exploring the antifungal potential of propolis to foster more environmentally friendly agriculture. Founded in 2014 by Thierry Dufresne, the OFA is based on the insight that bees are “not merely essential pollinators, but true guardians of the chemical memory of ecosystems”.
