1. Norwegian billionaire to build 181.6-metre Espen Oeino designed vessel

Kjell Inge Røkke, the Norwegian billionaire industrialist, has contracted a 181.6-metre vessel from Norway-based shipyard, Vard that will be designed by Espen Oeino. Set to be used for environmental research missions in partnership with WWF Norway, the vessel will also be used privately by its owner and will be available for charters.

Tailored for research and expedition activities to tackle the ocean’s environmental challenges, the Research Expedition Vessel (REV) was designed to cruise in arctic and tropical areas alike. At near 182-meters in length, the REV will also become the largest vessel in the world available for private charters for up to 36 guests.

2. Alexander Fogg presents project Ex Somnis III

 

Student designer Alexander Fogg has introduced his project Ex Somnis III.

With the 80 metre trimaran design, the yacht has the ability to make the most of large exterior decks, while maintaining a vast main saloon, equipped with panoramic port and starboard sliding doors, and dynamic forward facing windows in the outriggers allowing the owner to glide over the water.

3. S/Y A handed over to the owner

Costing a combined total of £600 million, a Russian oligarch’s two superyachts took to the waves for the first time together this week.

‘Sailing Yacht A’, worth £360million, and the £240 million masterpiece ‘Motor Yacht A’, are both owned by billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

They were spotted today in the 430-acre Principality of Monaco, the glitzy and glamorous seaside Principality on the French Riviera.

 

According to Yacht Harbour sources, 142.8-meter S/Y A, the largest sail assisted motor yacht in the world, has been handed over to her owner, Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, by the project team led by Dirk Kloosterman, after completing final sea trials in the Navantia shipyard in Cartagena, Southern Spain. The yacht left Nobiskrug on February 5th and has been spotted in Gibraltar three days ago.

4. Palladium spotted in Gibraltar

 

Blohm + Voss superyacht Palladium has been recently spotted in Gibraltar.

With an original design by Michael Leach, former Project Orca is thought to be owned by Mikhail Prokhorov, Russian oligarch and owner of the Brooklyn Nets, who is shaping the yachting industry nowadays.

5. Sanlorenzo third 460EXP unit emerges from shed

 

Sanlorenzo has shared the photo of the third unit in its 460EXP series, named Ocean’s Four, emerging from shed and getting ready for launch.

As the Italian shipyard describes, “the 460Exp is designed to give her owner a real taste of adventure: the exploration of distant and exotic destinations, with the safety and comfort associated with a superyacht, combining the experience, craftsmanship, and innovation”.

6. The full story behind the build of 106m Black Pearl

 

Perhaps one of the most acclaimed new build projects of 2017, the 106-metre Black Pearl, formerly known as Project Solar during its build, is set to soon be delivered to its owner by Dutch-based Oceanco, as the culmination of a thorough development process.
