Beach Volleyball: AS Monaco wins gold at French Championships
Female champions of France for the first time. In Dunkirk, the ASM beach-volley teams had an unforgettable weekend.
In mid-August, in Dunkirk for the cup of France the coach of the team wanted to improve the performance. The girls came in third place at the national competition on Île de Ré in 2016, and won the gold medal on the 27th of August in the north of France.
The Monaco girls were able to beat their opponents one by one. Eva Hamzaoui-Biton, Julie Bertany, France Bausset and Lisa-May Hahn defeated Nantes (2-0), Paris (2-0), Montpellier (2-0) and Montgermont (2-1) to reach the semifinals. Eva Hamzaoui-Biton and Julie Bertany displayed an impressive mastery of the sport; they did not tremble against the Touquettoises (2-0) and came out on top against Bordeaux in the final (2-0). All they had to do was lift the cup, making official their new status as the French champions, a first for the Monegasque club.
Also competing in the three days of the French Cup, Pascal and Vincent Ferry, Guillaume lmary and Thomas Darvaux-Hubert didn’t disappoint. After a strong start to the competition, finishing first in their group, the Monaco players lacked luck in the draw, said Frank Gopcevic, head of beach-volleyball section. Faced with the future finalists, Nice, the two pairs lost (2-1) but ensured a very beautiful fifth place by beating Bordeaux (2-0) then Sand-System (2-1). Which are still better results for the team who finished 6th last year, to the delight of the beach volleyball section of the ASM.
