New player joins AS Monaco club for five years

AS Monaco are pleased to announce the signing of the U-21 German international Ismail Jakobs. The quick and agile player, who can play up and down the left flank, who came through the academy at his hometown club, FC Cologne, has signed a five-year contract, joining the Rouge et Blanc through June 2026.

“We are pleased to welcome Ismail Jakobs to AS Monaco. Ismail has made a very promising start in the Bundesliga, where he was closely watched. We are convinced that he will find here the conditions necessary to continue his development, while bringing his talent and adding competition to Niko’s squad,” said Oleg Petrov, Vice President and CEO.

Ismail Jakobs, who won the European U21 championship this summer, has made 47 official appearances (4 goals, 4 assists) for FC Cologne, who he joined in 2012 at the age of 13, before signing his first professional contract seven years later, making his top flight debut in the same year. Ismail Jakobs made his Bundesliga debut on 8 November 2019 against Hoffenheim. A month later, he scored his first goal in a win over Eintracht Frankfurt, before being voted the German league’s Young Player of the Month.

Following a first successful season (20 games, 2 goals), Ismail Jakobs built on that in his second full season with FC Cologne, playing 27 matches  and scoring two goals. A German -U21 international since September 2020, the left-footed player, who will turn 22 on 17 August, has earned nine caps for his country. On 6 June, he won the U-21 European Championships, having beaten Portugal in the final (1-0).
