The third Princess Gabriella women’s pétanque competition and the sixth Prince Jacques men’s competition recently took place in Monaco at the Rainier-III boulodrome in the espace Saint-Antoine.
Both the Princess Gabriella and the Prince Jacques challenges took place in two phases. At the end of five games based on the Swiss system, the 16 best pairs competed in the round of 16, while the other 16 doubles played at the Allianz Prize table.
Hat trick for Nelly Peyré!
Out of 70 international teams, Nelly Peyré won the Princess Gabriella competition for the third consecutive time, with teammate Nadège Baussian. The doublet represented France. At the inaugural competition in 2022, Nelly Peyré won with Céline Lebossé and last year she won with Audrey Bandiera.
Monaco’s team, made up of Camille Podair and Sasha Djaghrif, had an impressive result and made it to the final four before they were beaten by the French winners with a score of 13-7. The French national teams were among the big favourites at the tournament. The two French teams made it to the finals and played an exciting match that lasted almost two hours. Despite stumbling at the beginning (0-6 after two ends), Nelly Peyré and Nadège Baussian finally won with a close score of 13-10.
France comes out on top…again!
One week after the women’s competition, the men’s teams took over the Rainier III boulodrome on 14 and 15 September. 32 top-level teams gathered for the six edition of the Prince Jacques competition. Monaco was well-represented in the international tournament with eight teams competing for the top spot.
France’s Dylan Rocher and teammate Christophe Sarrio won the final match against Mickaël Bonetto and Ludovic Montoro (13-3). Dylan Rocher is a 9-time world champion, 13-time European champion and 16-time French champion.
