Prince Albert II inaugurates 50 Seas exhibition by designer Mathieu Lehanneur

On the walls of the Oceanographic Museum‘s VIP lounge, hang fifty circular ceramic pieces inspired by the ocean and designed Mathieu Lehanneur. Prince Albert II inaugurated the exhibition, produced in collaboration with Christie’s. Mathieu Lehanneur selected fifty points on a world map, and, with satellite images, created pieces with colour variations based on those places.  The different colours of the oceans are influenced by parameters such as depth, current and pollution. Maputo in Mozambique is deep blue with green and hints of gray. The Mediterranean, among the most beautiful colours in the world, is intense blue. And Nigeria showcases mysterious grays and sandy greens. The exhibition highlights the subtleties of the aquatic world and runs until the 6th of May.

Prince Albert II invited aboard the Hermione

The Hermione is truly a historical museum piece, with her three masts and billowing sails stretched out over a deck equipped with 18 cannons. Prince Albert II, accompanied by the General Secretary of La Francophonie, Michaëlle Jean, posed at the helm of the frigate as over a hundred onlookers welcomed the ship from the port. The ship is a replica of “the frigate of freedom” which served during the American War of Independence in the eighteenth century, under the orders of the Marquis de La Fayette. Today, she sails under the flag of the international organization of La Francophonie. The historic vessel set sail on 30 January in Rochefort to cross the Mediterranean and spread the values of living together and freedom. The Hermione will complete its four-month journey on 16 June in Rochefort.
