Prince Albert unveils Tribute Statue to Monegasque Firefighters

Prince Albert recently unveiled a statue which honours the fourteen Monegasque firefighters who died during the First World War. After laying a wreath and solemnly stating the names and ranks of the fallen soldiers, the Sovereign unveiled the statue, conceived by sculptor Blaise Devissi. The artist created a statue which represents a firefighter about to leave his barracks to go to war.

The bronze work of art was revealed on Saint Barbe’s Day, on the Place du Campanin. Firefighters and fire trucks lined up next to an old Ford Model T. The Model T was symbolic for two reasons: it once belonged to Prince Rainier III and Americans allies came to France during the war and used the cars as ambulances.
