Prince Albert visits Aisne and Ardennes

Prince Albert II visited the French regions of Aisne and Ardennes on the 2nd and 3rd of April.  Because of an alliance between the future Prince Honoré IV of Monaco and Louise d’Aumont-Mazarin in 1777, The Sovereign inherited the titles Duke of Rethel-Mazarin and Prince of Castle-Porcien. On Easter Monday, the Sovereign was received at Rozoy-sur-Serre for the millennium of the Saint-Laurent collegiate church, where his ancestor Hortense Mancini, Duchess of Mazarin, is buried. On Tuesday the 3rd, Pascal Joly, the Prefect of Ardennes, Noël Bourgeois, President of the County Council and Mayor Guy Camus welcomed the Prince to Chaumont-Porcien. The Prince climbed the mountain where a chapel dedicated to Saint Berthauld is located, on the 1,500th anniversary of the Saint’s death, before receiving a very warm welcome from the public in front of the town hall.

Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline attend 5 hour Concert!

Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline attended a ‘Printemps des arts’ concert at the Oceanographic Museum. The program featured the longest quartet piece in the world, by American composer Morton Feldman, performed by the Bela Quartet. The Prince, Princess and the entire audience sat in comfortable chairs for the marathon performance.

After the first hour of music, several people discreetly headed for the exit, but Prince Albert II was still captivated. After hundreds of pages of sheet music were turned and the musicians had played for almost five hours, there were only about fifty people left in the room, including Princess Caroline.  When the music stopped, the audience sprung up from their seats for a standing ovation for the musicians who accomplished an incredible feat of endurance and skill.
