Street closed: Avenue de Fontvieille

In this article we present details of an important street being closed which will affect transportation routes and journey times, as Avenue de Fontvieille will be blocked in both directions in August. This information will allow drivers and travellers to organise their journeys to avoid the restricted areas if possible.

The development of the Pasteur Island will be continuing, with the relocation of Charles III College, the Léo Ferré space in the Media Library, the Post Office sorting centre, and the creation of offices and 900 parking spaces. As part of this ongoing construction and development work, the upward direction of the avenue de Fontvieille has been closed to traffic since Monday, 24 July, starting from the intersection with Rue du Gabian.

Beginning on Monday, 31 July, the downward direction of Fontvieille Avenue will be closed from the Inner Canton roundabout to the intersection with Gabian Street in order to safely remove the concrete slab, the pavement that runs alongside the boulevard Charles II and also the pergola that overlooks the Avenue de Fontvieille. For residents, traffic will be permitted in both directions on a single lane all the way to the Smeg building.

On Saturday 26th August for the Monaco-Marseille match, the downward direction will be reopened and closed again from Monday 28th to Thursday 31st August for the refurbishment of the asphalt, between the Canton interior and Le Méridien. During the closure of Avenue de Fontvieille in both directions, those people registered with the Terrasses de Fontvieille car park will be relocated to the FontVieille shopping centre.

The upward direction of Fontvieille Avenue will be restored to its normal usage from Monday 28 to Thursday 31 August. For pedestrian safety, the stairs between Fontvieille Avenue and Charles II Boulevard will also be closed until 26th August. Hopefully with this information on the street closure this will enable transportation to continue to run smoothly during this period.
