Forbidden City of Beijing at the Grimaldi Forum

The Grimaldi Forum team unveiled the main events of its Cultural program. The highlight of the events is an exhibition which will bring together some 200 exceptional pieces from the collections of the Forbidden City of Beijing.

Some Pop, a sprinkling of classical, some exhibitions, a hint of dance, a touch of musical comedy, theatre and laughter in the grand halls. The program for the first semester at the Grimaldi Forum is eclectic. It will also include a Chinese flavor that will spice up the Monegasque Summer. An exhibition event, which opens on the 13th of July, will evoke life during the last feudal dynasty of Chinese emperors. A life full of splendor in the mythical Forbidden City of Beijing, “a symbolic place for culture and politics,” details Catherine Alestchenkoff, director of cultural events. For the occasion, 200 precious objects drawn from the million which make up the collection of the Forbidden City will be presented in Monaco. Pieces which will endeavor to narrate a history of Chinese civilization from 1644 to 1911.

In another genre, the season will be marked by the presence of stars, notably the arrival of Cecilia Bartoli and her project with the Monte-Carlo Opera. As well as Muriel Robin, François Berléand and Daniel Auteuil in plays that the Princess-Grace Theatre will present at the Grimaldi Forum. In March, there will also be the twelfth edition of the ‘Sérémissimes de l’humor’ featuring Anthony Kavanagh and Les Chevaliers du Fiel. And for fans of the 80’s musical, Dirty Dancing will be staged in July. A musical in English, which was mounted in England, retells the love story between Baby and Johnny from the famous film.
