Roses were inaugurated in Monaco and Ireland by Prince Albert II

Prince Albert of Monaco was in Drogheda, Ireland on the past week to join a diverse gathering of Irish businesses, beekeepers and researchers for a Biodiversity Forum in the Boyne Valley Hotel. The meeting addressed the value of biodiversity, its role in environmental and economic sustainability, and discussed how to tackle current biodiversity loss.

The Prince, who has a very keen interest in biodiversity globally, commended the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan approach: “The enthusiasm for pollinator conservation in Ireland supported across a range of sectors, gives us hope for the future.” During his visit to Drogheda, the Prince also visited Dominick’s Park to open a Rose Garden in honor of his mother Princess Grace who once visited Drogheda.

But it was not the only rose garden that was inaugurated by Prince last week. The sovereign was also present at the inauguration of a rosebush in Monaco by daughter of the famous perfume designer Marcel Rochas.

There is a link between the royal family and the Rochas, explained the daughter. “At Prince Rainier’s request, my mother organized the centennial ball here in 1966. At the beginning of the 70’s, I also had the chance to meet Princess Grace with whom strong links were made. I then met her children when they were studying in Paris. When I came back here for a book signing two years ago, Giles Muzas showed me the Princess Grace rose garden. It was then that I had the idea of creating my own rose, which could only be inaugurated here. My new foundation, created in 2016, seeks to support all innovative cultural, health and environmental projects. I have always been very involved in the protection of rivers and sea, another thing I have in common with Prince Albert. It seemed only right to award his foundation with the very first award of the Sophie Rochas Foundation, with a check for 5000 euros”.
