Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline award the winner of the World Pâté-Croûte Championship

In the presence of the Sovereign and the Princess of Hanover, the 15th edition of the Monegasque selection for the World Pâté-Croûte Championship took place at One Monte-Carlo on 8 October. Ten Chefs from Monaco competed to secure their place in the final in Lyon, which will take place on 2 December. Among them, five represented the Société des Bains de Mer.

Participants presented their gastronomic creations to an exceptional jury composed of Prince Albert II, Princess Caroline, as well as renowned Chefs such as Jacques Maximin, Christian Garcia, Christophe Cussac and Guillaume Gomez. Members of the jury tasted each pâté-croûte ten minutes apart with certain guidelines: the absence of jelly in the centre, a fundamental element of the dish, could lead to immediate elimination. In addition to traditional ingredients, some innovative and surprising ingredients included pigeon, Colonnata bacon, morels, duck breast, figs and even lime. After about two hours of tasting, Prince Albert II announced the name of the winner: Simon Ganache, representing the Yacht Club de Monaco.

To close the day, Prince Albert II was made a knight of pâté-croûte, and Princess Caroline received the gold medal of the toques blanches lyonnaises.
