The legendary figure in European basketball has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third season. Spanoulis arrives from Peristeri Athens, where his first season as head coach was nothing short of extraordinary. Under his leadership, the team reached the Greek Cup final, secured third place in the domestic league, and advanced to the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League. These achievements earned him the prestigious “Coach of the Year” award in the competition, a testament to his impressive transition from player to coach.
As a player, Spanoulis built a legacy that few can match. A three-time EuroLeague champion, he was also part of Greece’s historic victory at the 2005 EuroBasket. Individually, he claimed three EuroLeague Final Four MVP titles and was once named the league’s season MVP. For years, he held the title of the EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer until it was overtaken by Mike James, now a key player under his guidance at Monaco.
