The crowd at the Louis-II was certainly up for this match, ready to go wild whenever the Red & Whites went forward. And they were in orbit with just seven minutes gone, as Falcao rose to meet Lemar’s lovely left-wing cross, planting an unstoppable header into the net and getting AS Monaco off to the perfect start. Three minutes later, Moutinho let fly with a powerful effort that went just over the bar, but LOSC stuck to their task and fashioned a good chance of their own through Sliti just before the half-hour. It took a superb stop from Subasic to prevent the equaliser.

MAGIC MBAPPÉ!

After that scare, the Red & Whites retook control of proceedings. Silva drilled a cross into the middle but Lemar missed the ball (41 mins). Moments later, Bakayoko’s overhead kick was blocked by the hand of Amadou in the box, but referee Mr Bastien waved away the penalty appeals (43 mins). With half-time approaching, AS Monaco ramped up the pressure around the Lille goal, and with 44 minutes on the clock Silva found Mbappé in space down the right. The youngster bamboozled Beria with disconcerting ease, before sliding the ball back to Silva, who side-footed into the top corner to double the home side’s advantage. With a 2-0 lead at the interval, not only was the Holy Grail of Championship glory was inching closer and closer for the Monegasques, but they had also passed the 100 goal mark in Ligue 1!

RED & WHITE SUPREMACY

The pattern of the game continued after half-time, as Lemar struck a shot from 20 yards that was inadvertently blocked by Falcao (48 mins). Lemar was in the thick of things again in the 54th minute, delivering a perfect corner for Jemerson to meet at the far post. The Brazilian defender’s volley shaved the Lille post. For the visitors, Koné saw an effort deflect off Jemerson, but Subasic was alert and punched the ball behind for a corner (57 mins). The Monegasques were still having much the better of things, though, and Jemerson was inches away from converting Silva’s fine cross in the 65th minute, beating his man in the air but narrowly failing to make contact with the ball.

A MASTERPIECE TO MAKE IT 3-0

From the next attack, AS Monaco put together an almost perfect move. Bakayoko found Lemar, who chipped a pass out to Mbappé on the right of the area. The starlet side-footed first time into the path of Falcao, who smashed a volley past the helpless Maignan to claim his 21st goal of the season (69 mins). It was a fantastically constructed goal and put the home side out of sight. Right at the end, Alonso turned the ball into his own net as he looked to prevent Lemar’s cross from reaching Germain. The final score was 4-0 to AS Monaco, who have now equaled PSG’s tally of 102 from last season! PSG won at St-Etienne (0-5) tonight, but this 28th win of this Ligue 1 campaign – and the tenth in a row – means the Monegasques are now just a single point away from sealing their first title for 17 years! A draw against St-Etienne on Wednesday will be enough to crown this incredible season! Daghe Munegu!
