Undefeated the Red and Whites Snatch a Draw at Fiorentina

The Red and Whites continued their preparation undefeated by capturing a good draw against Fiorentina this last Saturday at the Artemio-Franchi stadium (1-1). It was the day after their narrow victory obtained against Empoli and Philippe Clement completely rotated his team. Cercle Brugge defender Jesper Daland started in the middle with Benoît Badiashile, captain. While Eliesse Ben Seghir is in support of Myron Boadu.

A choppy first half

In a very choppy first half many faults were committed on both sides but Fiorentina offered the best opportunities including a shot from Riccardo Saponara which flirted with the far post in the 8th minute. And Rolando Mandragora tried his luck from close range in the 13th

minute. Fortunately well placed, Jesper Daland pushed it back on the line. The Monegasque defense, on the other hand, could do nothing about the shot from Luca Ranieri, who inherited the ball after a reflex save from Alexander Nübel on a free kick. So the score in the 14th minute was 1-0, for Fiorentina. La Viola then proved dangerous again on a direct free kick in the 18th minute.

Caio Henrique smashes the bar

It was on set pieces that the Red and Whites decided to react, given the opportunity each time the Italians fouled. One of the specialists in the exercise, Caio Henrique, stood out on a free kick aimed at the far post in the 23rd minute. Decidedly the most dangerous Monegasque in this first half hour, the Brazilian found Pietro Terraciano’s crossbar in the 33rd minute. It was undoubtedly the biggest opportunity in this first half which ended with a one-goal deficit.

The second period started like the first. Nevertheless, the entry of Breel Embolo was good for the men of Philippe Clement. Just back from the World Cup with Switzerland, the Monegasque striker is fast onto a deflection from a good free kick from Aleksandr Golovin on the hour mark. Result, a successful strike from Myron Boadu who only has to finish close. The score level led up at 1-1, in the 60th minute.

Playtime for youngsters

The Flemish technician then rotates by offering playing time to the residents of the Academy: Jules Béry, Mamadou Coulibaly, Félix Lemarechal and Mohamed Bamba. Nothing more will be added to the score line and AS Monaco therefore came away with a good draw against Fiorentina (1-1), at the end of a very tight encounter. Next meeting and last preparation meeting at Leeds for the Red and Whites.
