#hello_monaco weekend: what to do on May 12th and 13th

No doubt this weekend all the attention is drawn to the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique but this is not the only high profile event in the area; there is much more to this weekend.

Grand Prix de Monaco Historique

This Grand Prix de Monaco Historique will mark the 11th edition of this prestigious event (May 11-13, 2018) in the Principality. The Organizing Committee and the Historic Department of Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) have already made several crucial decisions.

In fairness, this 2018 edition will be rare and exceptional for all spectators, whether you consider the global picture or give a closer look to the menu: five distinct starting grids covering the first thirty years of the Formula 1 World Championship, a unique sight for motor racing fans, worldwide collectors and nostalgic enthusiasts.

During two and a half days, all competitors will share their passion for high level motor racing with thousands of fans. The cars will not be parked in a closed room but involved in endless racing moments, noise and smell included, against their rivals of the old times when they all chased a win in the heart of the Principality of Monaco. On a mythical track where 80% of the straight lines and turns are exactly the same as in 1929, and still used every year for the most glamorous Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Football Match: AS MONACO vs. AS SAINT-ETIENNE

Another sports event to watch is the French Premier League Football Championship: Monaco – Saint-Etienne game on Saturday 12 May, at 9 pm Stade Louis II.

RM Sotheby’s Monaco Auction

A classic car auction to visit this weekend is RM Sotheby’s biennial Monaco auction. Offering the perfect blend of class, glitz, hedonism, and top-rank motorsport, Monaco provides the perfect backdrop for RM Sotheby’s biennial Monaco auction. As market leaders in the collector car industry, RM Sotheby’s exhaustively researches, markets, and presents exceptional vehicles to the public. The event will attract the top car collectors and enthusiasts from around the globe into one room to battle it out for the winning bid. The auction coincides with the legendary Historic Grand Prix of Monaco, making for a weekend ripe with automotive excitement. Last year’s auction was highlighted by the sale of a 1951 Ferrari 340 America Touring Barchetta, which achieved an astounding €7.280.000. This year’s lots will include a 1934 Lancia Augusta Coupé , a 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS, a 2010 Alfa Romeo 8 C Spider, and a 2018 Lamborghini Huracán, whose proceeds will be donated to the Vatican for charity.

Cannes Film Festival

And very close to Monaco now takes place the 71th annual Cannes Film Festival, held to 19 May 2018. Cate Blanchett, an internationally acclaimed actress and producer of both stage and screen, a recipient of two Academy Awards has been selected as the President of the Jury for the festival with Edouard Baer hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. This year’s forthcoming Festival de Cannes will open with a screening of Asghar Farhadi’s new film Everybody Knows (Todos Lo Saben) in Competition at the Grand Théâtre Lumière in the Palais des Festivals on Tuesday 8 May.

The Cannes Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from all around the world. Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. The festival will be celebrating its 71th year.
