Chopard has recently welcomed two new limited edition chronograph watches to its collection, entitled ‘2018 Monaco Historic Grand Prix Race Edition’.
Since 2002, Chopard has been a partner and official timekeeper of the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, a must-see event for classic racing. Dedicated to the most prestigious classic automobile competition, Chopard released two new, powerful and sporty watches to pay tribute to the 11th edition of the race. Monaco’s Historic Grand Prix will be held on the 12th and 13th of May at the Monte-Carlo circuit.
A fixture in classic motorsport events, Chopard’s co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s passion for race cars led him to make Chopard the main sponsor and official timekeeper of the Monaco Grand Prix in 2002. A commitment synonymous with a collection of timepieces inspired by the race car world, perfectly in line with the virtues of the Grand Prix: endurance, precision, robustness and elegance.
Designed to support competitors, the new 2018 Monaco Grand Prix Race Edition Watch is an indispensable tool for the racing driver. Accurate, sturdy and perfectly legible, it is available in two versions: micro-blasted titanium mixed with steel and 18-carat pink gold with titanium and steel. 250 limited edition pieces will be available in titanium and steel and 100 limited edition pieces in 18-carat pink gold, titanium, and steel. Bodywork inspired by vintage cars, certified mechanics and bright orange or blue accents, the new chronograph watches focus on mechanical refinement, precision, vintage design and embody Chopard’s passion for racing and watchmaking expertise.
Every two years since 1997, the Monaco Historic Grand Prix transforms the Principality into a temple for classic cars, where passion fuels each participant. The biennial meeting of mechanical enthusiasts showcases a wide variety of cars from the best car manufacturers, divided into seven categories.
At each Grand Prix, two exclusive and original watch models reinforce the spirit of the race which drives the collection of powerful timepieces. From the choice of materials to the principles of construction, the reliability of mechanics to the legibility of functions, everything has been designed to make the sports watch an instrument cut for action.
For the 11th edition of the event, the new exclusive 2018 Monaco Grand Prix Race Edition Watch will honour the bold spirit of the intense race where speed is a raison d’être and victory is a matter of panache. The new watches are fitted with dials in the shape of engine pistons and a blue bezel equipped with a tachymeter scale, ideal for calculating the average speed at a race. The case is 44.5 mm in diameter and is engraved with the logo of the Automobile Club of Monaco. Waterproof up to100 metres, it houses a high-precision watch engine, certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Control (COSC), an essential quality for a Chopard chronograph. The self-winding mechanical movement, with a power reserve of approximately 46 hours, displays the hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date.
Optimally legible, the azure silver dial comes alive with the play of light created by the blue and silver chronograph counters. The timer is punctuated by characteristic arrow-shaped applique indexes painted by Super-LumiNova. The bright orange second-hand of the new edition counts the precious seconds of the race, during which speed is synonymous with performance and risk-taking in the demanding corners of Monaco’s circuit.
