AS Monaco Legends” triumph in charity gala match over champions

In a charity gala match initiated by the Rybolovlev family, a Chevanton hat-trick and a Giuly goal enabled AS Monaco Legends to win against Karagounis’ Greek All Stars on Monday in Lefkada, Greece (4-3).

Fifteen years after the Red and White team’s epic run in the Champions League and Greece’s victory at Euro 2004, the heroes of these two teams met on Monday afternoon in Lefkada, Greece, for a charity match initiated and organisedby the family of AS Monaco President Dmitry Rybolovlev for the benefit of the local association “Faros” which works to help the poor.

Coached by Leonardo Jardim, the team led by Ludovic Giuly, several 2004 players – including Greek Zikos, Roma, Givet, Squillaci, El Fakiri, Cissé, Carole… – and former players who wore the jersey diagonally (Carvalho, Gerard, Piquionne, François Modesto…), defeated the former Greek national team that had created the sensation by winning the Euro 2004 in Portugal (4-3).

Chevanton distinguished himself by scoring a hat-trick and scoring a goal for captain Ludovic Giuly, who also scored a decisive pass. Karagounis scored a double for the Greeks.

This gala event, broadcast live on Greek television, was performed in front of nearly 2500 people in Lefkada Stadium. All the proceeds were donated to the “Faros” association, which works for disadvantaged families in the region.

This match is part of the actions organised on the initiative of President Dmitry Rybolovlev’s family and led by AS Monaco in Lefkada.

Last year, coach Leonardo Jardim travelled to the island for a training camp with the club’s former Greek player Akis Zikos.

Two years ago, it was his captain Falcao who came to give valuable advice to the local club’s youngsters.
